The Gospel According to Peter — 2020
The Rebirth
Based on real events, this is a stream of consciousness piece of writing which I managed to get down here before it disappeared. It may not be my best piece of writing, but it’s a snapshot I wanted to capture. Thanks for reading.

On the day of his rebirth, Peter was woken by a loud rumbling sound.
His wife, who had put on weight during the coronavirus pandemic, was snoring again.
He jammed in a pair of silicone earplugs but while they dampened the sound, a steady vibration still rippled across the mattress.
After 20 minutes of tossing, turning and trying to angle limbs over ears to no avail, Peter gently nudged his wife.
“Honey, you’re snoring.”
She grunted and turned over. Peter waited.
“Hmggggggrrrrrrrrrerrrrrhhhhgggg,” the snoring continued.
It was 5.30 a.m. Knowing further sleep was unlikely, Peter replaced the earplugs with a pair of earphones, delicately slid his mobile under the covers, flipped it open and navigated to his current podcast. The Bible.
